Acceptable Use Policy

Scope — where this applies. This document covers WhiteKnight Academy as a whole: both the public website at whiteknight.academy and the learning platform at analytics.whiteknight.academy. Where it refers to "the Site", "the Service", or "the Platform", it means both unless a specific one is named.

Effective date: 2026-07-02

Acceptable Use Policy

Why this exists

WhiteKnight Academy is a chess-education platform for children. Most of our users are minors. Some rules on this platform are stricter than you might encounter elsewhere online; that is deliberate. By using the platform you agree to follow this policy at all times.

This policy applies to everyone using WhiteKnight Academy: students, parents, coaches, observers at lessons, and anyone who interacts with the Service.

What you must not do

1. Unlawful or harmful behaviour

  • Use the Service for any purpose that is illegal in your jurisdiction or ours.
  • Promote, organise, or facilitate violence, terrorism, human trafficking, or other serious crime.
  • Post or share content that is obscene, defamatory, or that violates another person's rights.

2. Harm to people on the platform

  • Harass, bully, threaten, intimidate, or stalk any user or coach.
  • Use hateful language, slurs, or content that attacks people on the basis of protected characteristics (race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, etc.).
  • Share personal information about another user without their (and, for a child, their parent's) clear permission.
  • Attempt to identify, dox, contact, or follow minors off-platform in any way.

3. Safeguarding-relevant prohibitions

(Full list in Safeguarding Policy § 5 and Coach Code of Conduct § 7. Selected highlights below.)

  • Any conduct of a sexual nature toward, or referencing, a minor.
  • Requesting or sending nude, sexualised, or sexually suggestive content.
  • Grooming behaviours: private contact, excessive praise, gifts, building secrets, isolating a child from supervision.
  • Possession, distribution, or receipt of child-sexual-abuse material (CSAM).
  • Attempting to move communications with a minor off-platform (email, Discord, Telegram, WhatsApp, SMS, phone).

These behaviours will be suspended immediately and, where warranted, reported to law enforcement.

4. Cheating, fraud, manipulation

  • Use chess engines, online computer-analysis tools, or another person to play moves on your behalf during a rated game or a puzzle session.
  • Manipulate rating, XP, streaks, or badges through fake games, sandbagging, or collusion.
  • Abuse referral, promotion, or coupon mechanisms (creating multiple accounts, fabricating referrals, etc.).
  • Provide false identity information at sign-up or impersonate any person.
  • Use someone else's account or share your account with another person.

5. Security and integrity of the Service

  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, probe, or disassemble any part of the Service.
  • Run automated scrapers, bots, or load-testing tools against the Service.
  • Circumvent rate limits, access controls, IP restrictions, or other safety measures.
  • Upload or introduce malicious code, viruses, worms, or similar.
  • Exploit or publicly disclose a security vulnerability without first responsibly reporting it to security@whiteknight.academy.

6. Commercial misuse

  • Use the Service to promote your own paid services, products, political campaigns, or causes.
  • Solicit payments, gifts, donations, or referrals to off-platform services from other users (especially from parents or minors).
  • Scrape or collect users' data for any commercial purpose (including, but not limited to, marketing, training AI models, or building derivative datasets).

7. Intellectual property

  • Upload content you do not own or have permission to use.
  • Claim as your own any content (puzzles, analyses, articles) authored by us or other users.

8. Coaches — additional restrictions

Coaches must also follow the Coach Code of Conduct. Breaches of either document can end the coaching relationship immediately and trigger reporting under our Safeguarding Policy.

How we enforce this AUP

Detection

We may identify breaches through:

  • user reports (via the in-app "Report a concern" button or contact@whiteknight.academy);
  • coach reports;
  • platform-level signals (rate limits, automated abuse detection, audit logs);
  • third-party reports (e.g., Chess.com anti-cheat sharing, law-enforcement notification);
  • our own review of publicly-reported incidents.

Review

We review with proportionality:

  • Minor breach (e.g., occasional rudeness, isolated policy slip): reminder; logged in the user's account.
  • Repeated or material breach (persistent harassment, cheating, off-platform-contact attempts): warning; possible temporary suspension.
  • Serious or zero-tolerance breach (safeguarding, CSAM, fraud, security attack): immediate suspension; full investigation per our internal Incident Response Plan; likely termination; referral to authorities where warranted.

A human reviews every enforcement decision that affects an account. Automated systems can only apply short-term rate limits; suspensions and terminations are made by humans.

Appeal (DSA Art 20)

If we restrict your account or remove your content you can appeal within 6 months to legal@whiteknight.academy. Appeals are reviewed by a person who did not make the original decision. Our response will include the reasons and, where applicable, point you to an out-of-court dispute-settlement body.

Safeguarding-specific handling

For safeguarding-flagged behaviour we follow the Safeguarding Policy and the Incident Response Plan. External reporting — to NCMEC / Cybertip.ca / INHOPE / local police — is made without prior notice to the subject, where the facts require.

Reporting misuse you see

See how to report in the Contact & Complaints page. Short version: use the in-app report button in the relevant area, or email contact@whiteknight.academy (mark "safeguarding" for urgent child-safety concerns).

You can report anonymously. We will still act on credible anonymous reports, subject to what we can reasonably establish.

Updates

We may update this AUP. Material changes:

  • posted at the publication URL;
  • notified to active users by email at least 15 days before they take effect;
  • for changes that materially expand what is treated as a breach against minors, we obtain fresh parental consent under COPPA §312.5(a)(2).
