Yes — around six is a lovely age to start. Chess builds focus, patience and confidence at exactly the age those skills are forming, and a patient coach introduces one idea at a time so it feels like play, not schoolwork.
Not at all. Many students start not knowing how the pieces move. We also have groups for improvers and competitive players.
New students get their first month of weekly lessons (one a week) for $5, then the normal weekly price. You can cancel anytime before renewal — no contract.
Across the market, small-group classes for kids typically run $20–$40 per lesson and private coaching $30–$100+ per hour. Our weekly plan includes the live lesson plus homework, game analysis and the parent dashboard — and the first month is $5. Prices localise at checkout.
For most children a small group of five or fewer is the better start — social, motivating and great value, with real attention from the coach. One-to-one wins for tournament preparation, an unusual level for their age, or a child who genuinely prefers learning without an audience. You can start in a group and add private sessions later.
The usual signs: they win most casual games at their level, they want to play against stronger opponents, and losing makes them curious rather than upset. There is no rush — your coach will suggest tournaments when your child is ready, and competition always stays optional.
An app gives your child puzzles; we give them a teacher. A real coach teaches live every week and explains the “why” — plus a complete platform around the lessons: a synced lesson-room board, puzzle homework, automatic game analysis, a parent dashboard, and iOS/Android apps.
