Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about online chess lessons, membership plans, scheduling, and learning progress.

Quick answers

White Knight Academy is an international online chess training platform connecting students with professional coaches across time zones.

Our core program is built for kids aged 5–14 (beginner → advanced), and we also welcome adults. Adults join separate groups to keep pacing and topics aligned.

We run weekly 50-minute small group lessons (up to 4 students) with a flexible curriculum and coach feedback.

Most lessons are hosted on Google Meet. Zoom may be used as a backup or for special sessions.

We guarantee: English (EN), Ukrainian (UA), Polish (PL).

Yes — Trial Class is the easiest way to test our format and get a quick level recommendation.

Getting started (beginners & placement)

Absolutely. We have beginner lessons that start from the basics (including how each piece moves).

We use a simple placement flow: a short check (chat + quick tasks / trial lesson) and then we recommend the best-fitting level.

Yes — if their level and schedule match. If levels differ, we’ll recommend separate groups so everyone progresses.

Yes. Adults are placed into separate groups (or formats) depending on level and goals.

Lessons & curriculum

Yes. We follow a 7-level curriculum (beginner to advanced) and students move up based on skills, not time.

Warm-up → main topic → guided practice (puzzles/positions/games) → feedback and a simple practice plan.

No. Practice is a major part of learning — we use short games, themed play, and training tasks.

Yes. Tournaments and structured competitions help measure progress and keep students motivated (including rating-based formats where applicable).

Groups, progress & quality

Small groups keep lessons interactive: each student gets attention, feedback, and time to play.

We track attendance and skill checkpoints (baseline → mid → final), and we use tournament/rating signals where relevant. Parents and schools can receive clear progress updates.

We apply minimum lesson standards, collect feedback, and monitor outcomes over time. In the future, quality and reporting will be supported by platform analytics and AI tools.

Schedule & calendar

Our lesson calendar shows available weekly sessions and time slots.

Most groups follow a weekly rhythm (up to four sessions per month).

Missed lessons & rescheduling (standard policy)

Group lessons are reserved seats with a live coach, so missed lessons are not refundable.

We don’t guarantee make-up lessons. However, if you notify us at least 24 hours in advance, we may offer a courtesy make-up option (joining another group of the same level) if a seat is available. Make-ups are limited (to keep groups stable).

No — lessons are not recorded.

If we must cancel, we will reschedule the session or provide an appropriate credit/replacement option.

Membership, cancellation & refunds (standard policy)

We offer Monthly and Yearly memberships.

No. Yearly membership does not renew automatically.

Yes. You can cancel at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the next billing month (one additional month is charged after your request). This ensures stable group planning and coach scheduling.

In general, we do not offer refunds for missed classes or partially used periods. If you cancel, you keep access through your active paid period.

If you have serious technical issues that prevent you from accessing lessons, or a special situation, contact support — we review cases individually. (Many education providers apply a short initial cancellation window; however, live tutoring commonly becomes non-refundable once sessions begin.)

Privacy & recording policy (kids-first)

No. Lessons are not recorded.

In rare cases, we may consider it only with written consent and clear privacy rules. For marketing or promo recordings, we always collect explicit permissions in advance.

Inclusion, scholarships & school coupons

Yes — if we receive grant funding, we plan to provide free access for:

  • children with limited mobility,

  • children of refugees affected by Russian aggression,

  • children from remote villages with limited access to clubs.

We will have a dedicated page where families can apply. Access is provided after moderation and verification (to keep the program fair and sustainable).

Yes. Schools can receive discount coupons for our lessons, which students can redeem on our website.

AI on the platform (how we use it)

Yes — we plan to use AI to improve learning and operations, for example:

  • faster search across learning materials (“find the right topic in seconds”),

  • smarter group matching (level + age + language + schedule),

  • quality monitoring (based on outcomes and feedback, not recordings),

  • automated statistics and progress summaries for students and parents,

  • personalized practice recommendations (what to train next).
